Scott Boland completely outwitted Shubman Gill in the World Test Championship Final
India had a decent start, but their position became uncertain as they lost both Rohit Sharma and Gill just before the Tea break.
Experienced Indian wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik praised Australian bowler Scott Boland for his tactics against Shubman Gill on Day 2 of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) Final at the Oval.
Gill was dismissed for just 13 runs, bowled by Scott Boland while leaving the ball. Similarly, Cheteshwar Pujara also got out in a similar manner, misjudging a delivery from Cameron Green and having his stumps knocked over at 14 runs. Karthik, however, believed that Pujara's dismissal was due to a misunderstanding of the situation, unlike Gill's.
Australia's captain Pat Cummins took the first wicket by trapping his Indian counterpart Rohit Sharma lbw, who scored 15 runs. In the next over, Scott Boland dismissed Shubman Gill (13) as he failed to defend against an incoming ball that hit his off-stump.
India was struggling at 30 for 3 when Cheteshwar Pujara's ability to bat for a long time became crucial for his team. The 35-year-old managed to make 14 runs before getting dismissed in the same manner as Gill, not offering a shot to a delivery from Cameron Green that hit his off-stump.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli fell victim to the extra bounce. Despite looking confident with his 14 runs, he could only fend off a sharply rising delivery from Mitchell Starc to Steve Smith at second slip.
Dinesh Karthik stressed the importance of Ajinkya Rahane for India's comeback on the third day of the World Test Championship final at The Oval. Rahane was fortunate to survive a dismissal on 17 when he was initially given out lbw, but the decision was overturned after replays showed that Pat Cummins had bowled a no-ball. In a setback for India's chances of staying competitive, Ravindra Jadeja played an aggressive inning of 48 runs before edging Nathan Lyon's delivery to Steve Smith in the slips.
Despite the valuable 71-run partnership between Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja, Jadeja's dismissal towards the end of the day hindered India's progress. By the way, Ajinkya Rahane is still batting, and it is crucial for Team India that he continues his innings for as long as possible.
However, they are facing a considerable challenge in this Test match as they are significantly behind in the game. It will require great mental and technical effort for them to make a comeback. Australia currently holds a strong position in the match, having scored 459 runs while India is at 150-5, creating a substantial gap between the two teams.
At the conclusion of the second day, Rohit Sharma's team was at a score of 151-5, trailing Australia by a significant 318 runs in their first innings.
