Complete Guide: Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Specs, Information, and Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is currently one of the top smartwatches available, but it's getting close to being one year old, which means a new version is likely coming soon. The company's July 2023 event is approaching, and there are strong rumors suggesting that the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is definitely on its way.

There are more competing wearable devices available now compared to when the Galaxy Watch 5 was launched. To stay ahead, Samsung will need to step up its game. This might involve making significant changes to the design, hardware, and features. We've gathered all the information we could find about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, including the expected release date and price.

Predicted release date and cost for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6

Based on a recent press release from Samsung, they mentioned that the new One UI 5 Watch features would be available on the "upcoming Galaxy Watch series later this year." While the exact date is uncertain, July seems like the most likely month for the release, even though Samsung has typically chosen August for their big reveals in the past.

The Galaxy Watch 3 was introduced in August 2020, followed by the Galaxy Watch 4 in August 2021, and finally, the Galaxy Watch 5 made its debut in August 2022.

Samsung has announced that they will be hosting an Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea, towards the end of July. While the exact date is not confirmed yet, there are rumors suggesting it could be on the 26th. This will be the first time Samsung holds an Unpacked event in their home country, and it's highly likely that they will unveil the new Watch along with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.

It seems like the company decided to announce the new devices earlier than they usually do in August. They did this to include them in their financial report for the second quarter of the year. Analysts believe that the company's financial situation isn't very good at the moment because of the effects of the lockdown years. During those years, people were willing to spend a lot of money on gadgets since they couldn't go outside.

Currently, the prices are not very clear. Last year, the Galaxy Watch 5 started at $279/£269 for a 40mm model with Wi-Fi only. The highest-end model, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro with 5G, reached a price of $499/£489. These prices were competitive with the latest Apple Watch, and the Watch 5 Pro was even cheaper than the Apple Watch Ultra. However, they were slightly more expensive than the previous generation. We believe that due to increases in the cost of living, pricier raw materials, and higher shipping fees, the prices will go up again in 2023.

Hardware speculations for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6

While there is a lot of information available early on about the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, there is less information circulating about the Galaxy Watch 6 series. We don't even know how many models will be released this year, although it is believed that the regular Watch 6 will still come in two different screen sizes.

There is a consistent rumor that the new Galaxy Watch 6 series will have larger batteries, which is good news for smartwatch owners who are tired of frequently charging their devices. The previous Watch 5 series could last for two to three days before needing to be charged, but now rival watches are able to last longer by using low-power second displays, modern CPUs, and bigger batteries.

There is also talk of WearOS 4 being more energy efficient, although Google only gave a preview of the update in May at its I/O conference, so it's unlikely that the new generation of Galaxy Watch will come with it already installed.

According to a Twitter source called Ice Universe, the Watch 6 Pro will have a slimmer bezel compared to the previous model, and it will also reintroduce the rotating bezel function found on the Watch 4 Classic. It's not clear if the name of the watch will change as a result.

Wish list for features in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6

In recent years, there hasn't been much competition in the world of Android wearable devices, so Samsung didn't have to put in much effort to remain the leader. However, with Google now entering the market and smaller brands offering impressive battery life, there is a lot of opportunity for the next generation of Galaxy Watch to bring improvements. Here are the changes we would like to see Samsung make.

Bring the spinning bezel back!

Samsung made its wearable range simpler with the Galaxy Watch5. The top-tier Watch5 Pro had a fixed bezel, while the two regular models had no bezel at all. This was a significant change from the previous generation, and it disappointed many fans who enjoyed the rotating bezel. The rotating bezel was a convenient way to navigate menus and provided a satisfying twisting motion, similar to a fidget spinner.

Improved battery life with new CPUs

In the past, Galaxy Watches used Samsung's own Exynos chipsets, but these were modified versions specifically designed for wearables, not as powerful as the CPUs in Samsung's Galaxy phones. Now that the Galaxy S23 series has switched entirely to Snapdragon processors, it's possible that the Galaxy Watch series might do the same. The Qualcomm Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 used in the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 has shown to be very energy-efficient, so Samsung could consider using similar chips to improve battery life in their watches.
